What a Loft Boarding Installer Does

A professional loft boarding installer creates a secure, safe raised floor in your loft, ensuring insulation is protected and the space is suitable for storage. Their work follows a structured process that maintains airflow and meets safety standards.

Key tasks performed by the installer include:

  • Advising you of your options and providing a written quotation.
  • Preparing the loft area and bringing all necessary parts and tools
  • Fixing LoftZone StoreFloor supports along the joists at measured intervals to form a stable base.
  • Installing LoftZone StoreFloor Cross-Beams and securing them, adjusting for uneven joists if needed.
  • Lifting, repositioning and properly laying insulation.
  • Installing loft boards on top of the frame to create a load-bearing floor suitable for storage, raised above the full depth of insulation. 

 

Our installers use our LoftZone StoreFloor which uses Tri and Uni‑Supports made from engineering-grade recycled plastic, providing a structure stronger than typical loft joists and exceeding British Standard 6399-1:1996 for floor loads. 

The installers can also work with the StoreFloor Compact which is designed for smaller spaces or lofts with lower headroom, offering the same strong, ventilated support in a more compact format.

Prepare and Support

The loft is cleared, insulation is checked, lifted or repositioned, and supports are fitted on the joists along with Cross‑Beams to form a stable frame.The insulation is then refitted and topped-up if necessary.

Install Boards

I purchased the LoftZone boarding kit (1.8m x 3.6m) and overall I’m very pleased with the result. After buying the kit I realised the joists in my loft ran the opposite way to what I expected, so I needed the 1.8m cross beams as well. I contacted LoftZone to explain the situation and they kindly waived the delivery fee for the extra beams, which I thought was excellent customer service.I am by no means experienced at DIY, but I still managed to install the kit in about 6 hours. The reviews and videos online often show professionals measuring everything perfectly, but in my case the walls and beams weren’t exactly parallel, so I had to adapt slightly. I built the first row, then measured each section as I went to work out where the next cross beam needed to go. This isn’t exactly the method in the instructions, but it worked perfectly for my loft.I did need a bit of help at certain points, but overall the system is very straightforward. If I can do it, anyone can. Once everything was installed the platform felt very solid and secure.I would definitely recommend this kit to anyone looking to board out their loft. Easy to install, well designed, and great customer service from LoftZone.

Purchased the ‘Truss Shelving’ to try and clear all the stuff from the top of the joists in the loft, to make room to properly floor the central bit of the loft. Not cheap, but what a product - easy to install and an absolute winner. Never thought the loft could be organised so quickly

Once I unpacked the compact store floor and laid it out to where I needed to start i fitted the first 3 metres; laid new insulation between fittings then fitted boards on top after that it was straight forward to get the rest fitted it is an excellent product to use even for a 75 year old i would definitely recommend this product .

How refreshing to get a piece of kit that works exactly as stated.Literally rolled the insulation back and 2 hours later a boarded loft for storage. Can’t go wrong with this clever starter set that even includes screws. Just add the floor boards and done. A ladder, floorboards and the starter kit £200!! Was quoted over £1k for someone to do it for me

This loft shelving is excellent, very easy to install, really sturdy allowing for heavy items and provides us with a lot more space in the central boarded section of our loft. I couldn't decide between these and the more expensive metal shelving and I glad I decided on these as they are perfect for our needs.

I recently installed the StoreFloor Compact Raised Loft Boarding Kit in my loft and couldn’t be happier with the results! LoftZone’s system made it so easy to lay a really strong, raised floor above my insulation. The instructions and online videos were clear, and I had a usable, stable loft floor down in just a few hours. Great product, easy to install, very sturdy and leaves all your insulation uncrushed and therefore effective in terms of heat retention. Kit came with everything needed, supports, cross rails and screws.Take your time to decide on your starting line and work outwards from that point, assembling behind yourself after installing each line of supports, makes this an easy DIY task for most people. Would definitely suggest that an impact driver or an electric screwdriver is needed though.

Great company product looks in great quality, it is a great idea to not worry about your wires as it is raised off the floor beams and also it helps with insulation as the fibreglass is not compressed, it has really made the loft accessable, it was mainly for keeping the christmas decorations up there but it has a whole lot more bags and odds and ends, the loftzone has no trouble holding up with all sorts. We used the compact supports which is a bit shorter than the other taller ones and it works just fine we don't loose too much headroom we might of done with the taller ones, so compact worked out just fine. The price is reasonable but if put is going to make a saving on heating bills it is worth it.Thank you loft zone.

LoftZone is a neat, lightweight and adaptable system. Our loft joists are ancient sagging oak, at seemingly random intervals, but I still got it to work well. The page of trips and tricks to use on uneven oddly spaced floors was particularly helpful.

Great loft boarding/platform kit. I purchased the 4.8m x 4.8m square along with some insulation, boards and lights. The square was about right for my loft space as the usable height drops off the towards the walls.It all arrived on a single very tall pallet - this was fine except it wasn't wrapped very well so had there been a heavy downpour the insulation and boards would have been ruined. I know the actual delivery was handled by another company though so this could be their responsibility.As for installation, I'm about halfway through and it goes together as easily as shown on the website. It copes with uneven joist spacing and joist height very well (1930s semi). I have however ran out of tri supports and almost out of screws at the halfway point. I'm using two per cross beam as recommended and followed the diagrams so I think the standard kit is a bit short on materials. This could obviously be a usage issue (happy to be corrected)Overall I'd thoroughly recommend - the finished floor is as stable as any other floor of the house and let's you adhere to the recommended 270mm insulation without compromising its effectiveness or the airflow over it.

I bought a 3.6x3.6m kit. It's pretty decent. I'm happy with the product. They only supplied 200 screws but needed an absolute minimum of 228. also their instructions had contradictions about how many screws to use.I tried to add this review to their product page but seems they won't post it.

Excellent products, packaging not so muchI have placed two orders now for LoftZone Store. Floor and heavy-duty steel shelving. If you are looking to install a raised floor to board your loft you will not be disappointed. The products are superb, easy to fit and the instructions are clear.As for the packaging, when the first order arrived the courier pointed out that one of the boxes was open so that I should check everything was there. He made a note on his system. I thought it was all there, but when the second order arrived - also with one of the boxes partially open - I realised that one of the steel beams to support the shelving had been missing from the first order and must have come out in transit. The first order didn't have any instructions in it, and the screws were loose in the box.It was only when the second order arrived with eveything there I realised that the first order had lost some items in transit. Two bands of packing tape holding together a large box containing heavy steel items is enough.So five stars for the products, two stars for the packaging. Please me more generous with the packing tape!

Like the idea standard kits. Well happy with the result.Like the idea of being able to buy a kit and also purchase additional items.Why when you watch the videos on the internet they all have perfect lofts with 600mm gaps between the joists!!My loft was not perfect but the product was able to deal with this with ease. I was amazed at what is a simple idea in design has managed to have thought of all the issues and design the solution in such a way it is so adaptable.Deliver was quick and easy and also additional items I needed to deal with a non standard design arrived quickly too.So, great product, well design and would recommend.Thanks LoftzoneDate of experience: 02 June 2025

Great product easy to install just need to plan the layout in advance. Nice solid raised loft system once the boards are screed down. Better than the individual stilts sold by other companies. Service was good ordered on Wednesday advised of progress, text from DPD saying delivery on Saturday between 11.18 and 12.18 delivered at exactly 11.18. Definitely recommend this company and product.

I was looking for raised loft flooring solutions when I came across Loftzone. I watched the installation videos and decided to install the system myself. I bought the medium pack and had all the Loftzone fittings in place on the first day. As I knew I was going to be in an awkward, hostile attic environment I decided beforehand to make some wooden templates to set the gaps between the "Tri's and Uni's"supports, which I believe hastened the fitting. The rails and supports are a bit rickety, but once the loft boards are screwed down the whole floor was solid. Would definitely recommend this system.

Received my LoftZone kit yesterday and fitted it today. Really easy to install with clear instructions. I’m not the best at DIY but even I was able to get a solid and stable floor in the loft of my new build. Thanks LoftZone, great product and highly recommended. The LoftZone storefloor system is great! I reinsulated our loft and installed a 1.8m x 3.6m storefloor kit in a weekend. It was easy so easy to install with online tutorials to view in preparation.It was also very reasonably priced and came with all the fixtures to complete the job.I cannot recommend this product highly enough and I will be ordering additional parts to extend the storefloor soon.

Recently bought a loftzone kit 1.8x4.8m for our new build house. Conscious that we didn’t want to void our 10 year builders guarantee this was the only product we could find on the market that boasted the ability to raise the loft floor above the insulation keeping the air flowing and not voiding our guarantee. Advice was quick and easy via email and installation by myself was a breeze after watching their YouTube video. Highly recommend.

Fantastic bit of kit, I’d say it’s the best available on the market.I bought the 6x6 meter kit and added some uni supports so I could put one under every beam just to be sure it’s rigid as possible.This has taken me the best part of 4 days work single handed, the hatch took me a whole day of that to complete on my own.For anyone who has a new build or an old build with added insulation then I’d say consider this product as the results are brilliant. The total size of the build is 8 x 3.6 meters and has cost around £800 in total, this includes the kit, boards, electrics, hatch and ladder kit. Looking forward to using it now. We moved into a new build property at the end of May and wanted to board the loft out for some useful storage space.I’d been researching the best options for this, based on the amount of insulation in the property and found this product.I initially order the extra large kit but with hindsight wish I had ordered the XXL as I had to order more parts to finish the job.The weather hasn’t helped with temperatures in the loft being above 30 degrees so it took longer than expected and I completed the job over a few weekends.I am not a tradesman, and my DIY skills aren’t great, I’m more used to spreadsheets than power tools but thought I’d give it a go. It would have cost be about £1,200 to have this fitted which buys a lot of tools.There are definitely some essentials you will need:GlovesDusk maskWorkbench Circular sawJigsawImpact driver (this is a must)Then the usual tape measure, pens etc.The finished product is great, really solid and once the frame was down which was the hardest part, screwing the boards to it was straight forward.I had made some wood battens the size I needed between the supports which was much easier than trying to measure each one with the existing insulation in the way. The fact they do raise above the joists is great as you have no issues with wires or anything in the way of the boards.In the end I used about 1,400 screws and 150 loft boards, then I bought some plastic trim to go around the edge of the opening to tidy it up. You’ll notice there is also a platform there at the joist level which makes it easy to lift things in and out of the loft.I had also had the small loft hatch replaced in advance by a joiner who cut a larger hole and then fitted the wooden loft ladder and hatch I had ordered online. The lights were also fitted by an electrician before I started the work as without decent light it would have been a much harder job.Would highly recommend this product and no probs with DIY installation if you’ve got the right tools.

We used loftzone over 3 years ago.The worst/hardest part of working in the loft, is it's not a nice environment, hot and itchy. This however made the process so much faster and easier. I've recommended it to friends and family over the years, and all that have used it are happy with it too.Also, I recall customer service was excellent. Sorry it's late, but highly recommended product!

I have just fitted the medium kit in my new-build loft. It took me about 5 hours and saved me over £400 compared to the quote I had from a couple of loft flooring installation companies. No snags whatsoever, and I am not a keen DIYer. In fact I hate working in the loft, but this product made it as easy as it can be. I am very pleased with the end result, and would highly recommend this product.

What an excellent product. It is very easy to install and very quick. There is also a degree of flexibility and margin within the design which allows it to be installed on top of irregular joists and around protruding roof supports. The quality of the materials provided also appears to be very high, and I have plenty of confidence in the resulting raised floor. I have also found the loftzone staff to be very friendly and helpful when I have spoken with them.

I've just installed the large kit in my Victorian loft. The joists were awkwardly spaced and some of them a bit wonky, but the product is so cleverly designed that I got round the "period features" without much trouble. The resulting floor seems very secure and rigid. It's a brilliant way to create a clean, usable space out of something that was filthy and dangerous.

Such a nifty product! So strong, yet light and a whizz to install! Definitely recommend to anyone needing extra space in their loft but wanting to protect their valuable insulation.
